Ever since the early 1800s, when JW Watson & Sons had its first foray into Yorkshire’s property management industry, we have always evolved to meet the needs of clients. We have been relentlessly innovative, because we know that to be competitive, we must have an edge.

Hepper & Son Property Auctioneers is founded
1878
JW Watson & Son is established, becoming a pioneer of Garden Cities in the UK
1905
JC Watson joined the firm and Watson became a prominent freeholder as well as acquiring and managing client assets
1946
CS Watson joined the firm, later becoming Deputy Major of Leeds
1969
JH Watson became the fourth generation of Watson’s to join the firm
1974
Watson & Sons and Hepper & Sons merge, with a new focus on asset management
2014
We became the first managing agent in the UK to be employee owned, and are recognized as the best in the industry by ARMA

Our people
Watson’s ownership within the same family extends to over two centuries. The pioneering attitude and adaptability that ensured Watson’s success over the last 200 years has evolved further and in 2014, John Watson’s vision of a successful business powered by its people.
And its principles became a reality, making history at the same time by becoming the first and only Property Managing Agent in the UK to transition to employee ownership.
Ian has worked for Watson since 2008, becoming a Director in November 2018 and Managing Director in October 2021. During his time at Watson Ian has managed a number of departments within the company which has ensured that he has a detailed understanding of all operations in order to be able to provide a top quality service across the business. As well as guiding the company forward, Ian is responsible for the business strategy, the development of client relationships and has been an integral part of the company’s continued success

Andrew has been part of the Watson team for over a decade, becoming a Company Director in October 2012 and currently holding the position of Finance Director. Andrew is a numbers man and as a proud Yorkshire man he ensures Watson continues on a sound financial footing.

Daniel has been with Watson since 2013 and is the Director responsible for managing the service charge accounts team.Daniel continues to manage a portfolio of our more complicated service charge accounts and has a keen focus on our incoming new business and their integration into Watson. He is a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and a Member of the Institute of Residential Property Managers and an Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

Dan is a commercial practice Chartered Surveyor, and joined Watson as an associate director in September 2018 where he is the head of Commercial and Lettings. Between 2008 and 2014 Dan trained and then qualified as a Chartered Surveyor with Jones Lang LaSalle, becoming a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2011. Prior to that, Dan was an Infantry Officer in the British Army for eight years before leaving in 2007 to undertake an MSc in Real Estate Management.
